Whose Plan Is It?
By Denise Matthews
"For I know the
plans I have for
you," declares the
Lord, "plans to prosper
you and not to harm
you, plans to give
you hope and a future.“
Jeremiah 29:11
n our day-to-day routines in life we plan out what we will or will not do, or so we think. Sometimes what we intend to do runs in a completely different direction than what we set out to achieve.
Recently a dear friend of mine had the privilege of becoming pregnant. While she insists they did not plan the child, nothing was done to prevent it either. A plan if I’ve ever heard one, but whose plan was it really?
Her pregnancy came on the cusp of a near divorce. Both parties had engaged in extra marital friendships to console the missing pieces of their marriage. While satan had intended these “friendships” to be the end of a marriage, God had other plans.
Nothing or no one can thwart the plans of God. In His wisdom, knowledge and word, He tells us ”For I know the plans I have for you”….”I know” not your friends, your spouse, your parents, your doctor, “I know.”
He has been at work with these plans long before you were born. So to say that we plan something that happens in our lives is completely wrong. He knows the plans He has for us, no one else.
The news of the pregnancy brought a renewed hope and a future to their marriage. Granted not all situations turn out this way, God’s plans are not the same for everyone, but for them, with their willingness to forgive and to be obedient to the vow (to love one another) they made before God, their hearts became tender and their union as husband and wife became stronger.
The faith and trust that they each have in God, and each other was able to get them through the difficult miscarriage that came just days after the first doctor visit. While their marriage could have taken a turn for the worst, His words rang out truth again, “My plans are to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
What began as simple plans to divorce and find hope and a future in empty promises from satan, became the true plan that God has known from the beginning.
Being obedient to God does not always bring a trouble free life, in fact the opposite holds true. The closer we get to God, the more satan will do what he can to keep chaos close by. We must hold on to the truth that He has chosen us before time and He knows the plans He has for us.
“It's God's plan, not mine. I will never understand it, but I do know he loves me and there is a purpose behind it!” S.R.
